ABOUT

Blockchain and Society is a critical inquiry essays and educational site on blockchain, automation, and culture. There has been much hype to blockchain, and it is still too early to know the scale and scope of impacts it may have on the world. The essays fix upon the social and policy study of blockchain tech (DAOs, cryptocurrency, smart contracts, metaverse, and NFTs), AI, and automation. Much of the focus relates to technology, capitalism, labor, race, class, gender, the environment, disability, and political economy. Like in generative AI, some of the most powerful individuals in cryptocurrency have ideological connections to elements of the TESCREAL* bundle of alarming tech futurist philosophies (Transhumanism, Extropianism, Singularitarianism, Cosmism, Rationalism, Effective Altruism, and Longtermism). [*TESCREAL acronym coined by T. Gebru &  É .Torres]

MISSION: Blockchain and Society is an essays, education, and resources site that seeks to inform the present by understanding the past, including powerbrokers in blockchain and AI from TESCREAL bundle ideological foundations. The site offers commentary in long-form critical Essays; Annotated Booklists; a Crypto Historical Timeline; a Blockchain Historical Timeline; and a Glossary.
